Jasmin 2012

I can't believe it's mid-December and I haven't talked about Jasmin 2012 yet.

The theme for Jasmin 2012 this year is "balance". (Special thanks to AmyDe for the suggestion, I couldn't think of a single idea for 2012 aside from "apocalypse". Balance is better.)

I like "balance" as a theme because with SharkBean getting ready to make her debut, I have zero idea what the rest of my life is going to look like with her in it. But let's take it one year at a time for now, shall we?

Balance is tough for me, so it's going to be a challenge sticking to it. I used to be all go-go-GO! all the time, but what I have already learned from SharkBean is that is just not going to work. (Now I'm just "Go! Nap!")

Everything will not always be the way I want it to be, when I want it to be done (because I just *can't* do it all anymore), but that's okay. I can (and will) rely on the people who offer to help, and - the "balance" part - not get my giant knickers in a twist when it's not done 100% the way I would have done it. I have a feeling that when SharkBean is a more vocal member of our household, this will be especially important.

[This is where I give Andrew lots of credit for pulling a double-shift- working full time and doing the lion's share of the housework when he gets home.]

For now, I'm going to be okay with doing what I can and coping with the rest. Even if it *does* look like our bedroom threw up all over the house. (We're still moving back in to the bedroom, and the Grownup FurnitureTM is AMAZING, even if I have to take a running leap to get into bed.)

  1. I'll be talking about Rachel2012 in an upcoming episode of KnitCents. I've been working on the plan for a while now!

  2. Thank you! And Best of luck (really) as Balance (for control freaks anonymous) is something I still struggle with everyday. I am practicing and learning and being patient with my self even with others (mostly).

Better print and post the word 'Balance' all over the house - because for a while - it's all going to feel like apocalypse (I think I'll go do this now as well).

Sincerest welcome to the wondrous chaos that is parenting! It's an adventure every day!

  3. My theme for 2012.............. I just had a new Grand daughter, so the theme of knitting for 2012 will be knitting with her in mind! All the best with the birth of your little one Jasmin!

  4. Love your theme! I'm still trying to figure mine out. Need some ideas! You should post a list of all your old one. :) Just as some ideas to go on.

  5. Well done! Wish I had figured that out at your age! You have no idea what a gift you are giving yourself and your family. You will be such a healthier person - both physically and emotionally.

  6. I think that balance is a very good word for me for next year as well. I have had ME also known as Chronic Fatigue syndrome for 4 years and next year is going to be the begining of a new treatment programme to try to get me back on my feet - it basically comes down to balance - learning to balance what I can do with what I want to do, balancing my expectations of myself and others, balancing what I want to do with what I can do. So yes balance is a very good word for 2012. I think it is something we all need to find in our lives to keep happy healthy and sane! Will look forward to seeing how it goes for you. C

  7. Hmm...I think my theme for 2012 is going to be Patience. I think that is something I will need with my growing family. Balance is a very good one!

  8. You are inspiring me.

  9. What a great idea to have a theme! My cousin does a thing with goals each month (instead of the resolutions made at the beginning of the year that you usually forget by February). I would probably have to pick a theme of "Patience." Definitely a skill/state of mind I need to work on, especially with the little one on the way as well.

It was fun meeting you at childbirth prep class (of all places!). Hopefully I'll be brave enough to bring my little one to Stitches and will try to say hello :)
